Nick MacDonald may have graduated from the University of Hartford, but his golf career is far from over. The 2010 Division I PING All-Northeast Region performer and Lebanon, N.H. native won the 107th New Hampshire State Amateur Championship over the weekend, defeating Ken Nilson in a 36-hole match play final at Eastman Golf Links, 7 and 5.
Hartford senior men's golfer Nick MacDonald was among the 119 Division I student-athletes named a Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar by the Golf Coaches Association of America on Thursday. The honor adds to a growing list for MacDonald, who was named a Division I PING All-Northeast Region performer last month. MacDonald also was named to the All-New England Division I Golf Association's first team in May.
The Golf Coaches Association of America announced its 2010 Division I PING All-Region teams last week, and Hartford's Nick MacDonald earned a spot on the Northeast team. The senior, who was one of 153 honorees representing six regions, earned the distinction for the third time in his collegiate career.
After completing their senior season on the Hartford men’s golf team, Nick MacDonald, Maki Kobayashi and Zack Ungvarsky were honored as All-New England Division I Golf Association players, the Association announced on Tuesday. MacDonald and Kobayashi were named to the first team, while Ungvarsky earned recognition on the second team. Twelve players from six different schools were honored altogether.
Nick MacDonald saved his best for last, firing a 75 in the third round of the America Sky Championship to finish in seventh place overall. It was the best round turned in by a Hartford men's golfer at the event, as the Hawks finished tenth overall. Texas-Pan American won the event, which they hosted at Los Lagos Golf Club. Brandon Reyna took the individual trophy, finishing with an overall 216, 15 strokes ahead of MacDonald.
