Boston, MA – In the final event of the 2009 season, seven members of the University of Hartford men's cross country team ran at the NCAA Division I Regionals, hosted by Boston University and held at Boston's Franklin Park on Saturday. The squad posted a 34th place finish out of 36 teams.
The Hawks were led by Jonas Hampton, marking the sixth time this season the junior has crossed the finish line first for Hartford. Hampton was the 161st overall runner to cross, completing the 10-kilometer course in 35:02.
Josh Hummel, a junior, was the second Hawk to complete the course. Hummel clocked-in at 36:49, placing 215th overall. Just a tenth of a second behind Hummel was Eric Flaman, who ran a time of 36:59 and was the 218th finisher.
Newcomers Wayne Lawrence and Robert Giuliani were the fourth and fifth runners to cross for Hartford. Lawrence raced to a 37:15 finish, placing 226th overall, while Giuliani placed 231st overall with a time of 37:33.
Also competing in the postseason event for the Hartford men were Weston Melnik and Corey Smith, who posted back-to-back finishes at 241st and 242nd place. Melnik recorded a time of 38:49 while Smith clocked-in at 39:32.
