Foster Continues to Find Success on the Pavement

Hartford cross country assistant and former student-athlete takes third place

Orlando, FL – Liz Foster, an assistant cross country coach at the University of Hartford, hit the pavement for the most “magical” running route in the world. The former Hartford cross country and track and field standout competed in the 2010 Walt Disney World Half Marathon last Saturday, and came out on top once again.

Out of a field of 9,676 female competitors, Foster was the third runner to cross the finish line with a gun time of 1:21.52. Overall, she ranked 33rd out of 17,090 runners, completing her first mile in less than seven minutes while averaging a speedy pace of 6:13 over the grueling 13.1 mile course.

Last October, Foster ran her first complete marathon. Despite battling the most unimaginable conditions, the Ellington, CT native was the first woman – and the seventh overall runner – to cross the finish line at the Amica Rhode Island Marathon. The rookie clocked-in at an impressive, Boston Marathon qualifying time of 3:03.47.

The Walt Disney World Half Marathon was nothing but a warm-up for Foster, who continues her demanding and strenuous 70-mile per week training regimen in preparation for the prestigious Boston Marathon – the world's oldest annual marathon. Foster will lace up her running shoes on April 19 in hopes of running 26.2 miles in an Olympic trial qualifying time of 2:46.00.
