NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The University of Hartford track and field teams competed at the Yale Springtime Invitational on Sunday, the squads' final tune-up before next week's America East conference championships.
The Hartford women landed five finishes in the top-seven while the men saw a pair of top-seven performances.
Freshman Brittney Lawson significantly improved her personal-best in the hammer throw with her toss of 47.58-meters, erasing her school record of 46.18-meters set last weekend at the Holy Cross Invitational. She landed a fifth place finish in the event. Carolyn Grime and Catie Nyitray also launched personal-records in the event on Sunday.
Sophomore Kristalena Lamore and freshman Priscilla Appiagyei brought home a pair of top-seven finishes in the jumps on Sunday. Lamore rounded out the top-seven with her season-best leap of 5.18-meters in the long jump while Appiagyei ranked sixth in the triple jump, combining for a distance of 10.69-meters.
On the track, the women's 4x100-meter and 4x400-meter relay teams landed fourth and third place finishes, respectively. The 4x100-meter team (Stephanie Hanson, Kenterra Richardson, Nicole McClintock and Lamore) raced to a 50.90 finish while the 4x400-meter relay squad (Melanie Wilson, Ariana Bass, Mahrukh Khawaja and Appiagyei) combined for a time of 4:10.03.
Appiagyei was the fifth best competitor in the 200-meter dash with her time of 26.44 while Bass took home a seventh place finish in the 400-meter hurdles, clocking in at 1:06.51.
On the men's side, Chasani Douglas was the Hawks' lone competitor in the jumps. The rookie combined for a distance of 13.38-meters in the triple jump, ranking fourth in the event.
Sophomore Anderson Emerole also landed a fourth place finish for the Hartford men recording a season-best time of 22.30 in the 200-meter dash.
The Hawks will return to competition on Saturday, May 1 when they travel to Durham, N.H. to compete at the two-day 2010 America East Outdoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by the University of New Hampshire.
