DuPaul Captures 800-m Title at New England Outdoor Championship; Five Hawks Earn All-New England Honors

DEDHAM, Mass. – The University of Hartford men's and women's track and field teams wrapped up competition at the 2010 Outdoor New England Championships on Saturday. The three-day event was highlighted by Mike DuPaul's individual title in the 800-meter run. Five Hawks earned All-New England honors for posting top-eight finishes in four events.

DuPaul, fresh off the America East Championship where he took home second place honors in the 800-meter event, captured the New England outdoor title in that event with a time of 1:52.21. The grad student became the first male track and field athlete to be crowned a New England Champion in Hartford history.

Anderson Emerole followed up his third place 400-meter finish at the America East Championship with a sixth place finish in the event's finals on Saturday. The sophomore covered the track in 48.71 and took home All-New England honors for the second-straight season.

Emerole, DuPaul, Christopher Carr and Warren Lane tore up the track in the 4x400-meter relay, combining for a school record breaking time of 3:15.63. The foursome earned All-New England honors for its sixth place finish in the event.

The men's 4x800-meter relay squad also found success on the track and erased its program-best time of 8:01.46 set last weekend at the America East Championship last weekend with a new time of 7:49.36, bettering the school record by 12 seconds. Wayne Lawrence, Robert Giuliani, Christopher Rodriguez and Josh Hummel posted a ninth place finish, and fell just three-tenths of a second short of an All-New England medal.

Priscilla Appiagyei earned All-New England honors for the first time in her young career with her performance in the 400-meter run. The rookie raced to finish in 57:15 and was the third runner to cross the finish line on Saturday.

Freshman Brittney Lawson found success in the field events on Friday, day two of the championships. The rookie threw the hammer 50.00-meters, destroying her own school record of 46.18-meters set this season. Lawson landed an 11th in the event place finish and became the first track and field athlete in program history to qualify for the United States Junior Nationals.
