West Hartford, Conn. - This past Sunday, the University of Hartford Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) continued a long standing tradition of starting their year off with breakfast at the President's residence. The tradition dates back eight years and is something the students look forward to every fall.
Each year the student-athletes put together a list of issues on campus to discuss with the President. This year the issues ranged from parking lot troubles, to meal card issues, to facility maintenance and the social life on campus.
Jordan Bar, a senior on the men's soccer team, and second year member of SAAC said this about the experience, “President Harrison is always very open to talk about any issue on campus and has a extremely proactive approach with the students of the University; you can tell he is concerned with the needs of the students”
Edgardo Ureta, Co-President of SAAC and junior on the men's tennis team agrees that it's very unique to be able to communicate with the president and bring forth issues. “Students shouldn't only go to their professor, but go to his [the president's] office or one of his assistants because they're more than willing to help,” said Ureta.
The student-athletes at the University of Hartford are very proud to be Hawks and they just want the university to be the best it can be. They know that having a president with an open door policy is something not to be taken for granted and their goal is to utilize that relationship to improve their experience, and the experience of those who come to Hartford in the future.
