CAMBRIDGE, Mass. –
For the second-straight week, a University of Hartford men's basketball freshman took home the title of America East Rookie of the Week as Mark Nwakamma earned the distinction on Monday afternoon. Classmate Nate Sikma grabbed the honor last week after averaging 14.5 points per game en route to a pair of Hawks' victories.

A freshman from Leander, Texas, Nwakamma put together his best week of the season, averaging 16.0 points and shooting 82 percent (14 of 17) from the field en route to earning his first Rookie of the Week accolade of the year.

The freshman forward got his week started with a 14 point effort at home against Maine, helping lead the Hawks to a 64-50 triumph on Tuesday evening. In that outing, he finished 6-of-8 from the floor and 2-of-2 from the charity stripe while grabbing four boards and handing out a career-high three assists.

Nwakamma went on to lead Hartford to its fourth-straight victory with 18 points, tying a career-high, in its 67-51 victory at Saint Peter's on Saturday. In that outing, Nwakamma converted on 8-of-9 shots and finished 2-of-3 from the free throw line. That triumph marked Hartford's longest win streak since the 2007-08 campaign.

Nwakamma has reached double figure scoring in five of his last seven outings, averaging 12.3 points per game during that stretch. He ranks second on the team in points (8.7 points per game) and rebounds (2.4 rebounds per game) and boasts the America East's third-best shooting percentage (57.1 percent).

The Hawks put their winning streak on the line on Tuesday when they play host to the first place Stony Brook Seawolves. Tuesday evening also marks Senior Night as Clayton Brothers, Genesis Maciel, Andres Torres and Charles White will be honored in a ceremony prior to the 7:00 p.m. tip-off.
