WOMEN'S RESULTS
HANOVER, N.H. – The University of Hartford indoor track and field teams broke four school records Saturday at the Dartmouth Indoor Classic at the Leverone Field House. In the final tune-up before heading to Boston, Mass., for the America East championship meet, Hartford student-athletes set new marks in the women's 1,000-meter run, the women's 4x200-meter relay, the men's shot put and the men's 60-meter hurdles.
There was no team scoring at the Dartmouth Indoor Classic.
Sophomore
Sam Crisafulli paced the Hartford contingent, winning the women's 1,000 meters in record-setting fashion. Crisafulli became the first Hartford woman to break three minutes in the discipline with a first-place time of 2:56.48. The sophomore broke her own school record in the event, which she set earlier in the season. Crisafulli and junior
Jennifer Flores, who finished fifth in the event with a time of 3:03.92, both qualified for the New England Championships with their times.
The women's 4x200-meter relay team also picked up a win with a school–record effort. The squad comprising seniors
Priscilla Appiagyei and
Stephanie Hanson, sophomore
Tiffany Harrison and
Kafesha Thomas carried the baton across the finish line in 1:45.36.
Freshman
Samuel Kaczmarek and junior
Erik Quitzau set Hartford records on the men's side. Competing in just his third collegiate meet, Kaczmarek set a mark of 14.10 meters in the men's shot put. The freshman broke the previous school record of 13.36 meters by DePaul Avant, which was set in 2004.
Quitzau notched a school record in the 60-meter hurdles on his way to a seventh-place finish in the event. The junior posted a time of 8.73 in his finals heat, breaking the previous school-best mark by .13 seconds.
Overall, the Hawks posted a number of impressive results at the Dartmouth Indoor Classic Saturday. Freshman
Kafesha Thomas, in addition to helping the 4x200 relay to a record win, qualified for the New England Championships in the 60-meter dash with a fourth-place time of 7.97. Fellow freshman
Aika Aluc also made the finals in the 60-meters, finishing eighth with a time of 8.22.
In the 200-meter dash, five Hawk women finished in the top 10 with Appiagyei leading the way. The senior from South Windsor, Conn., finished second with a time of 26.49, a season-best time. Classmate
Natalie Bonham took fourth in the event with a time of 26.71, followed closely by Harrison in fifth with a time of 26.73. Thomas and Hanson finished seventh and tenth, respectively.
Freshman
Aleixa Diaz had a strong showing in the 800 meters, finishing fourth with a time of 2:21.16. Fellow freshman Margaret Fuller also posted a fourth-place finish, clearing a height of 1.48 meters in the high jump.
On the men's side, senior Ansu Diggs posted a pair of top-five finishes in the sprints. Diggs dashed to a 60-meter time of 7.21, a season best, to take fifth in the event. The senior also took fifth in the 200 meters, matching a season-best time of 23.25.
In the 400-meter dash, freshman
Eric Tahtamoni took fourth place with his time of 51.64. Senior
Gario Graham grabbed sixth place in the event, clocking in at 52.05.
Senior Chris Rodriguez also notched a top-five result. The senior from East Hartford, Conn., covered the distance in 1:08.11.
Like the women, the Hawk men also picked up a victory in the 4x200-meter relay. Junior
Jared Casey, along with Diggs, Graham and Tahtamoni, raced to the win with a time of 1:33.07.
Hartford's success was not limited to the track. Freshmen
Robert Pepper and
Andre Goodwin each finished in the top-five in the triple jump. Pepper leapt to second place, hitting a career-best mark of 13.07 meters while Goodwin took fifth with a mark of 12.46 meters.
The Hawks return to the track for the 2013 America East Indoor Track and Field Championship, February 11-12. The meet will be held at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center in Boston, Mass.
