Nunamacher Tabbed America East Scholar-Athlete

Complete America East Release

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. –
Former University of Hartford men's lacrosse player Rory Nunamacher has become the second Hawk to earn America East Scholar-Athlete accolades this year, as announced by the league office on Thursday afternoon. A member of the graduating class of 2013, Nunamacher joins classmate Amelia Pereira from the Hartford women's soccer team in grabbing the honor during the 2012-13 academic year.

A four-year midfielder, Nunamacher amassed a 3.45 cumulative grade point average and received a degree in accounting from the Barney School of Business last month. An America East All-Academic Team member in 2013, he landed spots on the America East Commissioner's Honor Roll in both 2012 and 2013 while earning Academic Honor Roll recognition in his first two seasons with the Hawks.

Outside of the classroom, Nunamacher enjoyed just as much success, taking home America East All-Conference honors on three occasions during his career. As a senior, the Albany, N.Y., native was placed on the First Team All-Conference prior to earning Second-Team accolades as a junior and All-Rookie Team honors in 2010. Nunamacher has also received regional recognition during his career as he was tabbed NEILA All-New England First Team in 2013 while earning a spot on the NEILA Senior Scholar-Athlete Team that same season.

Nunamacher closed out his career with 100 points (65 goals, 35 assists), becoming the 17th member of Hartford's 100-Point Club. During his final season donning the Scarlet and White, he ranked third on the team in scoring with 29 points, registering 18 goals and 11 assists. Recording at least one point in all but two contests, including one in his final 11 games, Nunamacher enjoyed four multi-goal outings, two of which were hat tricks.

The Scholar-Athlete award marks the first for a Hartford men's lacrosse player in 13 years when Darius Barber took home the honor in 2000. Two other Hawk lacrosse players have been tabbed a league Scholar-Athlete as Bryan Bendit earned the award from the America East in 1999 and Dan Hynes grabbed the honor from the North Atlantic Conference in 1996.

The Scholar-Athletes were members of teams in the eight championship sports which America East sponsored in the spring season including baseball, men's and women's lacrosse, softball, men's and women's tennis and men's and women's outdoor track and field. Member institutions of America East Conference for the 2012-13 spring season included University at Albany, Binghamton University, Boston University, University of Hartford, University of Maine, UMBC, University of New Hampshire, Stony Brook University and University of Vermont.

A committee of athletic administrators and NCAA Faculty Athletics Representatives chose an honoree in each of the eight winter championship sports. Each America East Scholar-Athlete was a starter or prominent reserve and carries a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.30. Each honoree will automatically be eligible for the America East Female or Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year award to be announced in mid-July.
