WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The members of the University of Hartford men's lacrosse team voted seniors
Will Dulin and
Brendan Gates as the Hawks' team captains for the 2018 season, head coach
Ryan Martin announced on Wednesday. Both four-year members of the program, Dulin and Gates have been key contributors to the Hawks both on and off the field during their careers.
"I am very excited for Brendan and Will to serve as our co-captains this spring," said Martin. "They have both worked extremely hard and have been great ambassadors for our program since first stepping foot on campus in the fall of 2014. Their peers have recognized not only their strong leadership qualities, but the hard work they have put in on the field, in the weight room, in the classroom and in the community, which makes this such a huge honor for Brendan and Will."
A midfielder from Willow Grove, Pa., Dulin had nine points a year ago behind four goals and five assists. His peers named him the Hawks' Most Improved Player in 2017, an award that reflects his dedication, work ethic and attitude. Dulin has totaled 45 appearances and 17 starts in his career and enters his final season at Hartford with 37 career points (17 goals, 20 assists).
In the classroom, Dulin has been just as impressive. He entered the 2017-18 academic year with a 3.71 cumulative GPA as an insurance/finance major. In addition to earning America East Commissioner's Honor Roll recognition in each of his three seasons, he is a two-time America East All-Academic Team member in 2016 and 2017.
Gates, a defender from Ashland, Mass., has played in 44 games, including 14 last season. He has compiled eight points, 28 ground balls and 10 caused turnovers during his career. In addition, Gates was the recipient of the team's prestigious Jack McGetrick Award, which recognizes perseverance, dedication, sacrifice and unyielding performance.
Gates has also been stellar in the classroom for the Hawks. He has been named to the America East Academic Honor Roll in each of his three seasons, receiving Commissioner's Honor Roll status in 2016 and 2017, in addition to earning back-to-back America East All-Academic Team laurels in each of his last two seasons. A three-time recipient of the team's Arline Robbins Academic Achievement Award, Gates entered the 2017-18 academic year with a 3.84 cumulative GPA as a health science/physical therapy major.
The Hawks begin the 2018 season with a trip to Queens, N.Y., to face BIG EAST member St. John's on Saturday, Feb. 17 (1 p.m). One week later, Hartford will face 2017 NCAA Tournament participant Bryant in the Hawks' home opener on Saturday, Feb. 24 (2 p.m.).
