2008-09 Hartford Cheerleading Team
The Hartford Cheerleading squad is a co-ed team consisting of 18-24 squad members, the mascot (Howie the Hawk), and one head coach. The team cheers for all men’s and women’s home basketball games. We travel with the team to designated away conference games, the America East Conference championship, and the NCAA tournament.
As a part of the Hartford cheerleading squad, our primary function is to promote school spirit and uphold the highest integrity while representing the University of Hartford at Athletic events, as well as out in the community. We participate in several community events throughout the year. We volunteer at the Special Olympics every May and we participated in the West Hartford Relay for Life over the summer. We will be participating in more community events in the upcoming year.
While our priority is athletic events at the University of Hartford, we also have the privilege of competing at local competitions and either UCA or NCA Nationals.
Tryouts for the University of Hartford Cheerleading squad are held in the spring for the following academic year and, if need be, the fall. Aside from designated captains, all returning members of the squad are required to tryout with incoming students. Each summer, we hope to attend a local camp in order to learn new stunts and enhance our skills with the squad selected at spring tryouts.
