LAX's Cudmore Earns Silver Medal at U-19 Championship

Sophomore Michael Cudmore, a member of the University of Hartford lacrosse team, earned a silver medal at the 2008 ILF U-19 World Lacrosse Championship.

The championship, which took place in Coquitlam, British Columbia last month, featured some of the best young talent from across the globe. A total of 12 countries were represented at the tournament, and Cudmore was one of 23 players competing for his home country of Canada.

Canada went 4-1 during round robin play, its only loss coming by a goal in overtime to the United States. The team then advanced to the gold medal game with a 23-12 victory over the Iroquois Nationals in the semifinals, setting up a rematch with the U.S. squad for the championship. Canada fell behind early but rallied to tie the game at 7-7 in the second quarter. The U.S., however, scored three times to close out the half and take a 10-7 lead. Canada pulled to within two early in the second half but never took a lead in a 19-12 defeat.

Cudmore played in all seven games and finished with a pair of goals, including Canada's first score in the championship game. He also went 14-of-28 in the faceoff circle for the tournament.

In his first season with the Hawks, Cudmore played in 13 games with seven starts and led the team with 13 assists. He also added five goals for a total of 18 points, good enough to rank fourth on the team in scoring. His solid play also earned him a spot on the America East All-Rookie Team.
