WEST HARTFORD, Conn.—The University of Hartford men's tennis team played three matches in four days as they travelled to Saint Peter's College Friday and Merrimack College Sunday before returning to West Hartford to host the Sacred Heart Pioneers for a Monday afternoon matchup.
Junior
Jordan Badenko and senior
Josh Isaacson paced the Hawks as each picked up singles victories in two of the three matches. Both earned victories in Jersey City, N.J., in the match against Saint Peter's. Isaacson made it two in a row, topping his Merrimack opponent in Andover, Mass., on Sunday. Badenko recorded his second victory at home against Sacred Heart.
Despite the singles play of Badenko and Isaacson, the Hawks were unable to notch a team victory, falling 5-2 to Saint Peter's, 6-3 to Merrimack and 5-2 to Sacred Heart.
Against the Peacocks on Friday, Badenko dominated in the top singles spot, notching a 6-3 win in the first set before his opponent retired in the second set. Isaacson outlasted his opponent, taking the first set, 6-3, before dropping the second, 3-6. Isaacson came back to take the tiebreak by a 6-2 tally.
At Merrimack, Isaacson again picked up a three-set win. After getting out to a one-set advantage with a 6-2 win in the first, the senior battled in the second before dropping a 7-5 result. However, the Marietta, Ga., native recovered in the deciding tiebreak with a 10-8 triumph.
Also in Andover on Sunday, junior
Alex Holdstein and freshman
Luis Montes combined for a 9-7 victory at No. 3 doubles to put the Hawks on the scoreboard.
Back in West Hartford against Sacred Heart, the Hawks notched the doubles point with matching 8-5 wins at Nos. 1 and 2 as the tandem of Badenko and freshman Nick Sharwarko won in the top spot while Isaacson and senior
Marco Neves teamed up for a victory at No. 2.
Badenko continued his strong play against the Pioneers with a 6-4, 6-1 win at the top singles spot.
