SIMSBURY, CT - The University of Hartford baseball team dropped an 11-6 decision to Holy Cross in non-conference action at Memorial Field on Wednesday.
Holy Cross improved to 10-10 overall while Hartford slipped to 2-11.
Trailing 5-0 in the bottom of the fourth, the Hawks batted around and rallied for five runs to tie the score 5-5. Luke Trahan delivered a three-run homer, his second of the season, while Adam Bowser and Bill Perry each had RBI singles.
The Crusaders answered with four runs in the top of the fifth to retake the lead 9-5 and never trailed again. Hartford added a run in the seventh on an RBI double from Ryan Crowley and loaded the bases in both the eighth and ninth but could not manage to push a run across.
Ryan Cuscovitch went 3-for-5 with two doubles for Hartford while teammate Josh Topp added two hits. Tom Potvin finished 3-for-4 with a solo homer and two RBI to lead Holy Cross.
Tim Thran (1-0) earned the win in relief for Holy Cross. He held the Hawks scoreless on one hit over two and a third innings. Erik Price (0-1) suffered the loss for Hartford in relief of starter C.J. Browne. Price allowed four runs on two hits over two innings. The two pitching staffs combined to hit 11 batters on the afternoon.
Hartford returns to non-conference action at Boston College on Thursday, April 14 at 3:30 p.m.
