Port St. Lucie, FL – The University of Hartford women's golf team opened its 2010 spring schedule with a trip south for two tournaments in Port St. Lucie, FL. The Hawks began with a tri-match against Siena and Rutgers on Monday and then played a dual match against Siena on Tuesday.
In the tri-match, the Hawks finished second overall, 10 strokes behind Siena who finished with an 18-hole 327. Rutgers rounded out the team totals with a 350. The tri-match was played on the prestigious Dye Course at the PGA Village.
Sophomore Emily Linn led the Hawks in the tri-match, finishing with an 80, eight strokes over par, which was tied with Siena's Courtney Tilley for the individual low round. Kara Sikorski (83), Paige Gauthier (86), Kirsten LaPointe (88) and Sarah Sideranko (89) rounded out the Hawks five.
Sideranko, a rookie, highlighted the Hawks play at the Dye Course when in the practice round she sank a hole in one on the par 3, 184 yard, third hole. According to the course website – 'This medium-length par-3 requires an exacting tee shot to a long, narrow green. Shots that stray too far left tend to bounce back down toward the putting surface. A large bunker guards the right side of the green. Watch for birds of prey on the tree snag just beyond the back right corner of the green.'
Another rookie, LaPointe led the Hawks in Tuesday's dual match against Siena with a four-over par 76 at Saints at Port St. Lucie Golf Course, a public course owned and operated by the city of Port St. Lucie. Sideranko finished second for Hartford, two strokes behind LaPointe (78) as the Hawks finished with an 18-hole 322, six stroke ahead of Siena.
Rounding out the Hawks five against the Saints was Gauthier with an 83, Sikorski with an 85 and Linn with an 89.
The Hawks will return to the Northeast before heading to Maryland for their next match, the Hoya Invitational on March 28-30 at the Four Streams GC in Beallsville, MD.
