First Round Results
Providence, RI – The University of Hartford men's golf team continued its spring season at the New England Division I Championships at the Triggs Memorial Golf Course in Providence, RI on Saturday. The second and final round will be held on Sunday with the Hawks teeing off beginning at 8:50 a.m.
Hartford stands in fourth place out of the 12 teams competing, six strokes behind the leader, the University of Connecticut. Hartford finished with a first round combined score of 299, while the Huskies finished out the first round with a 293. Sacred Heart (296) and Rhode Island (297) round out the top three teams.
Hartford was led by its senior class in the first round with Nick MacDonald, Maki Kobayashi and Zack Ungvarsky finishing first, second and third following the first 18 holes. MacDonald led all Hawks with a one-under par 71, which placed him in a two-way tie for third place. MacDonald finished two strokes behind the individual leader Matt Dubrowski who finished with a first round 69.
Kobayashi finished second for Hartford, one stroke behind MacDonald with a 72. After finishing with a 39 on the front nine, Kobayashi buckled down and chipped in a 33 on the back nine to close out the day at even par. Ungvarsky turned in a first round card with a 77 to finish third for the Hawks, tied at 18th overall.
Rounding out the scorers for the Hawks was sophomore Michael DiMeglio who finished seven strokes over par, and ten strokes off the leader with a 79. Rookie Brendan Meagher rounded out the Hawks five scorers with a first round 89, which tied him for 54th overall.
