Maki Kobayashi Tops Leaderboard at the New England Golf Championship

Combined Results

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -
As his senior season on the University of Hartford men's golf team winds down, Maki Kobayashi put together his first individual championship as he rolled back-to-back even-par rounds of 72 to finish first at the New England Division I Golf Championship, held at the Triggs Memorial Golf Club in Providence. Kobayashi led the way for Hartford, which finished fourth overall in the 12-team field.

Kobayashi's second-round 72 pulled him back from a three-stroke deficit behind UConn's Matt Dubrowski coming into the day. Among others, Kobayashi passed his teammate and fellow senior Nick MacDonald, who had fired a 71 on Saturday and finished just three strokes behind Kobayashi, tied for sixth overall.

Freshman Michael DiMeglio put together a strong tournament as well, finishing third on the Hawks and tied for 26th overall. He followed up a first-round 79 by carding a second-round 76. Zack Ungvarsky shot an 80 on Day Two to finish in a tie for 33rd, 13 strokes behind the leader Kobayashi.

Kobayashi and the Hawks have just one tournament ahead of them as the spring winds down. They will play at the America Sky Championship on April 26-27 for their conference championship.
