FINAL RESULTS
West Hartford, CT – Freshman Sarah Sideranko took home second place honors as she led the University of Hartford women's golf team to a fifth place finish at the 2010 Hartford Hawks Invitational at Rockledge Golf Course.
As a team, the Hawks scored a 331 in the first round and bettered that by 13 strokes in the second round to close out the 36-hole tournament with a 649, three strokes behind Fairleigh Dickinson and Hampton University who tied for third place overall. Rutgers University (618) maintained its first round lead to take home team medalist honors, while St. John's (635) finished second overall.
Sideranko, who played just a few miles from her home in New Britain, CT, finished three strokes better in the second round to card a two-day 153 (78-75), three strokes behind the leader. Rutger's Brittany Weddell led the Knights and the 66 golfer field with a six-over par 150. Sideranko was tied with one other golfer for second place, Rutger's Jeanne Waters (77-76).
Kara Sikorski and Paige Gauthier rounded out the Hawks top three. Gauthier finished in a four-way tie for 15th place overall, finishing the second round five strokes better to close out the tournament with a 163 (84-79). Sikorski finished two strokes behind Gauthier, tied for 22nd place overall with a score of 165 (83-82), finishing one stroke better in the second round.
Kirsten LaPointe rounded out the Hawks scorers, finishing with a 36-hole 168 (86-82), which tied her for 31st overall. Emily Linn finished off the Hawks five as she came into the clubhouse carding a 170 (88-82) through both rounds, tied for 37th overall.
The Hawks also had three individuals in the mix, Sadie Heald, Marissa Kallaugher and Catie Dillman. Heald and Dillman along with Sikorski and Gauthier were playing the final home match of their careers at Hartford. Heald finished the two-round tournament tied with her teammate LaPointe with a 168 (84-84). Kallaugher, who was playing in her first tournament as a Hawk, finished with a 183 (90-93) in 55th place overall. Dillman rounded out the Hawks individuals with a 188 (94-94), tied for 61st overall.
The women's golf team will see its final action prior to the 2010 MAAC Championships at the CCSU Quad Match on April 17 & 18 at Stanley Quarter Golf Course in New Britain, CT. The MAAC Championship, which begins on April 29 at the Celebration Golf Course in Celebration, FL, will close out the 2010 season.
