Breeanna Robinson Named America East Player of the Week

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. The Hartford women's soccer team has earned its first conference honor of the season, as junior forward Breeanna Robinson earned the America East Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday. Robinson, the team's leading scorer in 2009, netted three goals during the Hawks' trip to Philadelphia for the Temple Owls Tournament over the weekend.

On Friday, Robinson found the back of the net just 15 seconds into the second half, giving the Hawks a 2-0 lead over Drexel which they held onto for their first victory of the season. Robinson received a dish from Nicole Weil at the top of the box and blasted it over the head of Drexel's keeper for the score.

The Hawks found themselves down 2-0 early in Sunday's matchup with the host Temple Owls, but Robinson did her best to get the team back in it. Just over 30 minutes into the contest, Robinson received a pass from Alex Uscilla near the right corner of the net and angled it up and over the keeper's left shoulder to get the Hawks on the board. Later, with Hartford down 4-2 and less than ten minutes to play, Robinson once again teamed with Uscilla to pull the Hawks within one. Again shooting from the right of the goal, Robinson found the net just inside the left post, making it 4-3. Unfortunately, the score would remain that way as Hartford fell to the Owls.

For her three-goal performance in the tournament, Robinson was named to the Temple All-Tournament Team. Her three goals in three games played leads all America East performers so far this season, and her two-goal performance on Sunday was just the second multi-goal game for an America East player this year.

This is the second career honor for Robinson, who was also the conference Co-Player of the Week last October 26.

Robinson and the Hawks will host their own tournament this weekend, as La Salle and Columbia come to West Hartford to take part in the Hartford Hawks Soccer Weekend. Hartford and La Salle square off at 7:00 p.m. Friday, while the Hawks take on Columbia at 1:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon. Tickets are still available and can be purchased at the Malcolm and Brenda Berman Athletics Box Office at the Reich Family Pavilion, or by emailing tickets@hartford.edu. Tickets can also be purchased at the gate.
