WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - The Hartford women's soccer team will kick off the Hartford Hawks Soccer Weekend on Friday night, as they host the La Salle Explorers at 7 p.m. Looking for its first home victories of the season, the Hawks will also play host to the Columbia Lions on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Friday's game will mark the third straight for the Hawks against a team from the City of Brotherly Love. The Hawks split contests against Drexel and Temple last weekend at the Temple Owls Tournament, knocking off Drexel 2-0 before falling to the host Owls, 4-3. Junior
Breeanna Robinson scored three goals, earning All-Tournament recognition and propelling her to a second career America East Player of the Week award. Freshman
Arielle Aikens added two goals over the weekend.
This weekend's tournament, hosted in conjunction with Central Connecticut, marks the beginning of what head coach
John Natale hopes will become an early-season tradition for his squad. The first ever Hartford Hawks Soccer Weekend coincides with Youth Soccer Weekend, allowing discounted tickets for all youth soccer participants who attend the weekend's contests in their own soccer jerseys. Families of the youth soccer players will also benefit from ticket discounts.
The action at Al-Marzook Field at Alumni Stadium gets underway Friday evening at 5 p.m., when Central squares off with Columbia leading up to the Hawks' game with La Salle at 7 p.m. On Sunday, the Blue Devils and Explorers will face off at 11 a.m., and Hartford will take on Columbia at 1 p.m.
Tickets are still available and can be purchased by calling 860-768-HAWK, or by visiting the Malcolm and Brenda Berman Athletics Box Office at the Reich Family Pavilion. Tickets can also be purchased at the gate of Alumni Stadium prior to the games.
