West Hartford, Conn. – Following the Hawks season opening game at Old Dominion this past Friday, junior Amélia Pereira, a first team all-conference selection last season and the Hawks leading scorer as a sophomore, was called by her native Portugal to represent the nation in a pair of friendly matches with Turkey this week.
Pereira joined the Portuguese National Team on Sunday and is expected to see playing time in each of the two matches scheduled for Tuesday and Thursday. She will then rejoin the Hawks at the end of the week.
This is Pereira's second stint with the Portuguese National Team this year as she joined the team in January as they prepared for the Algarve Cup. Her involvement with the national program began when she was 16 as she joined the U-19 program.
