Hawks Volleyball Tops Providence on the Road

Providence, RI ? The University of Hartford volleyball team picked up their first win in the last 10 attempts with a five-game victory over the Providence College Friars on Tuesday night. The Hawks fell behind early after dropping the first game 30-28, but battled to win the next two by 30-21 marks. The Crusaders forced a fifth game with a 30-28 victory, but Hartford took home the win with a 15-10 showing in the final game. The Hawks are now 8-14 overall and will next play at UMBC on Friday at 7:00 p.m.

 

The Hawks were led by Jennifer Monroy who posted her first 20 or more kills game since the last Hawks victory. Monroy finished with 22 kills and had a .294 hitting percentage, her highest of the season. Teri Connolly and Erin Macro also finished with double digit kills. Connolly added 16 kills while Macro added 10. Sarah Rasor continued to captain the Hawks offense with 50 assists, matching her career-high.

 

Rasor also led the Hawks defensively with 20 digs, one of five players to finish with double digit digs. Lauren Flores was second on the team with 18 digs while Monroy added 12, Ljiljana Zecevic 11 and Sarah Boss 10. Flores also proved to have the toughest serve of the day with four aces in the match, the Hawks finished with 11 total aces.
