Hawks Fall on the Road in Three at UMBC

Baltimore, MD ? The Hartford volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision on the road to the UMBC Retrievers on Friday night. Hartford fell by scores of 30-23, 30-20, 30-20. The Hawks are now 8-15 overall and remain winless in conference play with a 0-8 record. UMBC improves to 11-13 overall and 4-4 in America East Action. The Hawks will be back in action when they host Maine on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at the Sports Center.

 

Hartford was led in the match by Jennifer Monroy. She finished the match with 12 kills, the only Hawks player in double figures. With her 12 kills on Friday, she stands only four shy of reaching her 1,000th career put down. Sarah Rasor again led the Hawks offensive charge with 25 assists and three kills. Erin Macro was the second leading Hawk in kills with six total. Hartford's defense was led by Hallie Fullagar with 15 digs. Monroy joined her in double figures in that column with 10 digs.

 

Hartford was in all three games, including either a lead or a tie in the first and third. In the first game the Hawks held a 16-14 lead after a pair of attack errors on the Retrievers. UMBC would tie it up and take a two point lead when they scored four-straight on their next service. UMBC then scored 12 of the final 16 points to take home the first win. In the second game, the Hawks tied the game at 11 with a kill from Monroy. Hartford kept it close, no more than three points, until late when the Retrievers scored the final six points of the game. In the final game, Hartford again held a slight lead, 11-10 before a mid-match nine point run capped off the match.
