Poughkeepsie, NY ? The Hartford Volleyball team dropped its final non-conference match of the season 3-0 at Marist on Tuesday night. The Red Foxes battled from behind to win the first game 32-30, before winning the match with 30-19 and 30-27 scores in games two and three. Hartford falls to 8-17 overall, while Marist improves to 9-15 this season.
Jennifer Monroy was the only Hartford player to finish with double digit kills, ending the match with 15. Monroy also finished the match with a .312 hitting percentage, a season high. In 32 total attacks she was credited with only five errors. Teri Connolly finished second on the team with eight kills from Erin Macro added seven. Monroy combined with Lauren Flores to lead the team with 10 digs each, while Sarah Rasor ran the Hawks on the floor, finishing with 25 assists.
The Hawks had a 10 point, 15-5, lead in the first game but was unable to hold on. The lead was made possible with a 10 point run all while Monroy served. The run featured a pair of aces for her, and two kills each for Macro and Hallie Fullagar. That run was immediately followed by seven-straight points for Marist, which put them down four, 15-11. A late game seven point run led to the Red Foxes first lead of the game at 26-25. The run began with back-to-back aces for Christy Lukes and four errors on the part of Hartford. A Jamie Kenworthy kill gave Marist the victory in the first game.
In the second game the Hawks weren't able to control the serve for more than a three point rally until late in the game. The largest Marist lead came at 26-15 on an Alexandra Schultze ace. Hartford then put together a four point run but would get no closer as the Red Foxes scored the final three points of the game to take the 2-0 lead in the match.
After Hartford opened up an early 8-4 lead in the third game, Marist took its first lead of the game after rattling off six straight points. The run began with back-to-back aces for Schultze, for the second time in the match. Hartford would regain the lead on three-straight hitting errors on Marist but the lead wouldn't last as Dawn Jan served for four straight points, taking Marist's final lead of the match. The teams traded points for the remainder of the match with Sally Hanson serving the final three points and Hanson also recording the match winning kills of a Jan assist.
Hartford will return to action with two home conference matches this weekend. The first will be Friday, when they welcome New Hampshire to the Reich Family Pavilion for a 7:00 p.m. Twenty-four hours later; the Hawks will welcome Albany in the final home match of the season. Prior to Albany match, coach Don Ferguson will honor Teri Connolly, the teams lone senior.
