Hawks Drops Conference Match 3-0 to Binghamton

West Hartford, CT - The University of Hartford volleyball dropped its third-straight match, this time to the Binghamton Bearcats by a 3-0 score. The Hawks drop to 7-8 overall and remain winless at 0-3 in conference play, while the Bearcats improve to 7-13 overall and are now 2-0 in America East action.

 

The Hawks opened all three games with an early lead, opening the first up to a 3-1 margin before the Bearcats would come back to tie the score at three, four and five before taking the lead for good. Binghamton took their final lead of the game on a Hawks attack error. Binghamton pulled their lead to as much as eight before closing the game out with a kill from Ashley Allen and a Hawks error.

 

The second game started with three-straight points for the Hawks. The early lead was made possible by a kill from Ljiljana Zecevic and an ace for Lauren Flores. But the Bearcats weren't going to let the lead stand, using a nine point run to open up a 14-9 lead. The run featured two aces for Jaclyn Strader and two kills from Megan Hoag. Hartford was able to creep back into the game, tying the game at 21 on an ace for Teri Connolly. The Bearcats answered with three-straight points before the Hawks pulled it back within one. Binghamton wasn't going away easily scoring five of the final six points to take the 2-0 advantage in the match.

 

Hartford again opened the third game with a 3-1 lead. The lead was made possible by a Zecevic kill and a Connolly ace. The Bearcats then took an 8-7 lead before back-to-back aces from Erin Macro put Hartford ahead 9-8. The game would be tied four times before an eight point run broke the Binghamton lead to 21-15. Harford wasn't going away without a fight, rattling off the next eight points to pull within three, 26-23. Binghamton then scored the next four points, to put them at match point before Hartford scored two-straight but a kill from Dawn Lammert closed the book on the match.

 

Hartford's hitting struggled throughout the match, finishing the three games with a .038 attack percentage. The Hawks had only one player with double digit kills, Jennifer Monroy finished with 12 kills but also had 11 errors. Zecevic was the second leading Hawk with eight kills while Maddison Molyneux finished with seven. Molyneux also led the hitters with a .167 attack percentage (7k, 4e, 18ta). Sarah Rasor continued to run the offense, finishing with 30 assists. The Hawks defense was led by Monroy and Flores, each finishing with 14 digs.

 

The Hawks will back in action tomorrow when they travel to Albany to take on the Great Danes at 7:00 p.m.
