West Hartford, CT ? The Hawks volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to Albany in the final home game of the 2006 season. Prior to the game, the Hawks honored their lone senior, Teri Connolly. Hartford fell to 8-19 overall and 0-11 in America East action while Albany improves to 16-9 overall and 9-2 in conference play, remaining the top team in the conference. The Great Danes captured the victory with scores of 30-16, 30-25 and 30-15.
Hartford was led by Jennifer Monroy. She finished with 15 kills, the only Hawks player in double figures. Monroy finished the game with a .189 hitting percentage with eight errors in 37 total attacks. Erin Macro was second on the team with seven kills while Maddison Molyneux added six. Sarah Rasor led the offense with 30 assists and also led the defense with nine digs.
After six ties in the first 14 points, the Great Danes began to pull away with a four point and a five point run, opening up their lead to 17-9. The first run began with three-straight aces from Kristin Fiorillo. After a Hawks error Ashley Crenshaw recorded a pair of kills in the second run to open up the lead. Back-to-back Hawks errors allowed Albany to extend that lead to 24-12 and a kill from Shelby Goldman closed out the first game.
The second game featured only two ties and two lead changes but remained close throughout. The Great Danes used mini runs of two and three points to pull ahead 15-10. Harford was able to pull it back in with an ace from Ljiljana Zecevic making it 16-14, but the Great Danes re-extended their lead to five points and ended the game with an ace for Ashley DeNeal.
The third game was similar to the first; there were six tie scores in the first 16 points before the Great Danes pulled away with a four point, a seven point and a five point run opening the game to a 26-12 lead. Hartford attempted a run late in the game but was held short when a Kamisha Kellam kill ended the match.
Hartford will play its final match of the season on Thursday evening when they travel to Stony Brook for a 7:00 p.m. match.
