Hawks Fall in Season Opener, 3-0 at Connecticut

Storrs, CT - The Hartford (0-1) Hawks volleyball team opened its season with a 3-0 loss on the road at Connecticut (1-0) on Saturday afternoon. Hartford's offense was led by junior Ljiljana Zecevic who finished with five kills. The Hawks will be back in action on Sept. 1 & 2 when they host Providence, Sacred Heart and Holy Cross for the Hartford Invitational in the intramural gym at the Sports Center.

Hartford kept it close in the early minutes of the first game, tying the score at nine after a kill from senior Teri Connolly. The Huskies regrouped after a timeout to score the next 11 points of the game to take a commanding 20-9 lead. Hartford scored only three two more points in the first game with UConn taking the early lead in the match.

Freshman Maddison Molyneux stepped it up in the second game to lead the team with three of the seven total kills in the game. The second game was the only that the Hawks finished with a positive hitting percentage finishing with seven kills and six errors.

For the match Zecevic led the team with her five kills while Connolly finished with four and Molyneux and junior Jennifer Monroy each finished with three.
