NEW BRITAIN, CT ? The University of Hartford women's soccer team gave Central Connecticut State University a good game on Friday afternoon but couldn't find the back of the net, falling 1-0 at the CCSU Soccer Field.
CCSU improved to 3-4-0 overall while Hartford dropped to 1-6-0 overall.
The Blue Devils scored the lone goal in the 63rd minute when Jen Scanzano tallied her first of the season from right in front of the goal. The play started with a scramble on the right side of the six, and Jessica McCavanagh served a ball in front that Scanzano redirected past junior goalkeeper Liz Cook.
CCSU nearly added another score in the 86th minute, but a shot from Brittany Emin hit the post. Hartford finished the game strong with two chances in the final four minutes, though freshman Rachel Richards sent a shot wide and sophomore Kacey Busque had her shot stopped by goalkeeper Erin Herd.
Heard preserved the clean sheet for the Blue Devils by making six saves against 16 shots. Cook made five saves against 16 shots.
Hartford will next host Yale University on Sunday, September 17 at Al-Marzook Field. The game is slated to begin at 2 p.m.
