Amherst, MA ? The Hartford men's soccer team outshot but couldn't outscore the 22nd ranked team in the nation on Friday afternoon, dropping a 1-0 decision to the UMass Minutemen in the first game of the UMass Soccer Tournament. Hartford is now 2-2-2 overall while UMass improves to 6-0-1 overall.
Hartford began the game with a flurry of shots including one in the second minute of the game, forcing Minutemen keeper Zack Simmons to make begin working early with his first save of the game.
The teams played a scoreless first half with the Hawks out shooting the home team by a 5-3 margin. The Minutemen scored the only goal in the game in the 66th minute when Bryan Hogan scored on a breakaway, sending the ball to the lower left corner.
Hartford finished the game with 11 total shots, compared to only seven shots for the Minutemen. Hartford keeper Matt Glaeser recorded one save in the game.
The Hawks continue play at the UMass Tournament on Sunday when they face Rhode Island at 12:00 p.m.
