WEST HARTFORD, CT ? The University of Hartford women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 final to Yale University on Sunday afternoon at Al-Marzook Field.
Yale's Caitlin Collins scored the game-winning goal in the 73rd minute as the Bulldogs improved to 2-3-1 overall. Mimi Macauley added an insurance score in the 85th minute to seal the victory. Hartford dropped to 1-7-0 overall.
Yale's first goal was the result of a play started by Trista Choksi, who had a clear shot on the goal from the right side from 12 yards out. Her blast was stopped by junior goalkeeper Liz Cook, though the rebound trickled off to the left side where Collins was charging in. She collected the loose ball and swept it over the goal line for her first tally of the season.
Macauley's goal came off an assist from Maggie Westfal. The Hawks were pushing forward for the equalizer and got caught on a counter-attack. The goal was Macauley's first of the season.
Yale outshot Hartford by an 11-9 margin. Susan Starr made two saves to record her second shutout of the season while Cook finished with four saves.
Hartford will next host Army on Friday, September 22 at 6 p.m. at Al-Marzook Field.
