Hawks Volleyball Tops Quinnipiac in Three Games

, CT ? The University of Hartford volleyball team (5-5) needed only three games this time around to top the Quinnipiac Bobcats on Tuesday night at the Sports Center. Hartford needed an extra point to take home the first game 31-29, before winning the second 30-24 and the final 30-28. The Hawks improve to 6-5 overall and Quinnipiac winless at 0-14.

 

Quinnipiac would fight throughout the entire match, taking the first game to extra points before Hartford closed things out with a 31-29 final score. Sarah Rasor would end the first game with a kill, one of four for her in the match. In the first game, freshman Erin Macro provided the majority of the offense, finishing with six kills and only three errors for a .308 attack percentage.

 

The Bobcats took an early 2-0 lead in the second game and then had to battle from behind the remainder of the match. Quinnipiac would tie the score a total of six times, the final one at 18-18 before the Hawks scored 13 points of a 16-point span to take a 26-20 lead, one the Bobcats would not recover from.

 

In the final game, the Hawks would be the ones battling back as the Bobcats took a 15-8 after a Hartford error. Three separate runs of three and four points would bring the Hawks within striking distance, tying the score at 21 on a kill from Macro. A late three-point run put the Hawks up by a 29-26 lead, this time made possible by a kill from Maddison Molyneux. Two attack errors put the score at 29-28 before a Macro kill sealed the deal for the three-game victory.

 

Macro combined with Jennifer Monroy to lead the team, both finishing with 14 kills. Monroy finished with a double double also adding 14 digs, which tied for the top spot on the team with Rasor. She also led the team with three aces. Rasor continued to lead the offensive charge with 38 assists while finishing with four kills and no errors. Lauren Flores also finished with 11 digs for the Hawks.

 

The Hawks return to action on Wednesday, September 27, when they host Sacred Heart in the second match between the two in-state foes this season. The Hawks and Pioneer's met earlier this season during the Hawks Invitational. Next weeks meeting will begin at 7:00 p.m. and is open to the public at the Sports Center.
