Fairfield, CT ? The Hartford men's soccer team played to its second-straight 1-1 tie, this time with the Fairfield Stags on Wednesday night. The Hawks goal came as an equalizer in the 73rd minute, forcing the overtime periods. Hartford is now 2-2-4 overall this season while Fairfield is now 3-2-1.
The teams played a scoreless first 45 minutes with the Stags taking two more shots than the Hawks. Fairfield finished the first half with five goals, forcing Hartford keeper Matt Glaeser to make two saves in the first period. Hartford took three shots in the first half with two of them on goal, forcing Stags keeper Jon Paul Francini to make a pair of saves.
The Stags put the first mark on the scoreboard in the 56th minute when Alex Cunliffe connected with Sam Bailey for the games first point. Hartford then scored the game tying goal in the 73rd minute when Kenniel Martin scored his third goal of the season, this time unassisted.
In total, both teams took five shots in the second period of regulation with both goalies recording a pair of saves. Hartford dominated the first overtime period, recording two shot attempts, one of them on goal. In the second overtime both teams would attempt a shot, with each needing to be saved by the respective goalies.
For the game, both teams finished with 11 shots. Glaeser finished the game with five saves while Francini finished with five saves and his team recorded one. The Hawks finished the game with two more corner kicks than the Stags, five to three.
