Flowers Sisters Help W Soccer to Win at UNH

DURHAM, NH ? The University of Hartford women's soccer team picked up a 2-1 come-from-behind victory at the University of New Hampshire on Thursday night to remain unbeaten in America East play.

Sisters Sara and Becky Flowers each scored their first goals of the season to propel the Hawks to victory. The win was also Hartford's first on the road this season.

After a scoreless first half, the Hawks (3-8-0 overall, 2-0-0 America East) fell behind early in the second stanza when New Hampshire's Shaunna Kaplan found the right corner of the goal from 10 yards out on a  breakaway.

Hartford remained calm and, despite taking only four shots in the second half, made the most of its opportunities. Sara Flowers netted the equalizer in the 56th minute on a shot from 12 yards out into the top-left of the goal. She then assisted on her sister's goal in the 83rd minute, serving up a ball up that Becky headed past goalkeeper Lynn Gugliuzza from 10 yards away.

New Hampshire (3-6-0, 1-1-0 America East) outshot Hartford 14-11 and held a 2-1 edge in corner kicks. Both Gugliuzza and junior Liz Cook made three saves apiece in goal.

Hartford returns home to face Holy Cross on Sunday, October 1 in its final non-conference match-up of the season. The game will kick off at 2 p.m. at Al-Marzook Field.
