Oneonta, NY - The Hartford men's soccer team played to a 110-minute 1-1 tie against the Cornell Big Red in its second game at the Hartwick Tournament on Sunday afternoon. By virture of the host, Hartwick, defeating Fairfield in the final game of the tournament, Hartford was declared the winner with Hartwick and Fairfield finishing in second place. Junior transfer Gary Muir was named the tournament MVP while Matt Glaeser, Daniel Antunez and Kenniel Martin were all named to the All-Tournament team.
The Big Red put the first mark on the board during the first half. Tom Marks scored for Cornell in the 27th minute. Despite field conditions that were severly affected by weekend rains, the Hawks' Muir connected on a free kick to force the overtime with his goal in the 65th minute.
Hartford led the match with 16 shots while the Big Red took 10 shots with Hawks' keeper Glaeser forced to make only two saves in the game.
The Hawks will play their home opener on Al-Marzook Field on Saturday, September 9 when they host in-state foe Quinnipiac at 6:00 p.m.
