WEST HARTFORD, CT ? The University of Hartford women's soccer team dropped its first America East game of the season on Sunday afternoon at Al-Marzook Field, falling 1-0 to the University of New Hampshire.
The Wildcats (10-5-1 overall, 6-1-0 AE), who maintained sole possession of first place in the conference standings, scored the game's only goal in the 35th minute. Shaunna Kaplan picked off a backward pass intended for a Hartford defender and scored easily after beating Hartford goalkeeper Elizabeth Cook to the ball.
New Hampshire took the 1-0 lead into the locker room at halftime and then packed in its defense in the second half. Hartford (5-6-4 overall, 3-1-2 America East) managed just one shot on goal in the second stanza. The loss snapped the Hawks' unbeaten streak of 15 games against conference opponents.
Cook finished with four saves while New Hampshire's Nikki Golding picked up her third shutout of the season by making five saves. The Hawks held a 14-7 advantage in shots and an 8-3 edge in corner kicks but couldn't put one into the back of the net.
Hartford will next play at Albany on Thursday, October 25 at 3 p.m.
