Men's Soccer Ties Boston University 1-1 on Wednesday Night

West Hartford, CT - The University of Hartford men's soccer team played its second-straight 110 minute tie, finishing 1-1 against Boston University on a rainy Wednesday night at Al-Marzook Field. The Hawks goal came from Oswald Adu, who scored his second of the season on Portuguese pride night. “I would like to extend my appreciation to the Portuguese community for their support tonight despite the weather,” said head coach Dan Gaspar.

The Hawks scored in the 12th minute when Andreas Blamo created an opening on the opposite side of the box for Adu. Blamo's work to get the ball through the defense pulled the defenders away from Adu. Keeper Joe Carullo was expecting a shot from Blamo, who instead passed across the box where Adu chipped it in from four yards out. The assist for Blamo is the team leading fourth of the season for the junior transfer.

“We tied perhaps one of the favorites to win the America East conference tonight,” continued Gaspar. “However, we are dissatisfied with the result. We had the game under control and the possibility of getting three points, but we let it slip away to leave with one point.”

The Terriers increased their intensity in the second half, forcing the ball into Hawks territory for much of the 45 minute half. BU took 10 second half shots, with two of them on goal and one careening off the up-right. Boston did capitalize in the 85th minute with a play that began off a corner kick. Neil Hlavaty sent the corner into the box, where the Hawks cleared it out. A BU midfielder sent the ball back over the top of the Hawks defense where three BU players chipped it around before Aaron O'Neal scored off a pass form Andrej Bjegovic.

The Terriers had the only shot in the first overtime period. O'Neal sent a missile at the Hawks net, which Hartford keeper Matt Glaeser was able to push out of bounds for his fourth save of the game.

Hartford wouldn't have a quality look at the goal in the second extra period. Boston took three shots in the final 10 minutes with the third, a long ball from O'Neal kick saved by the Hawks Pat Roy.

The Hawks will continue America East play when they travel to New Hampshire on Sunday for a 1:00 p.m. start.
