Men's Soccer Plays to 1-1 Tie with New Hampshire

, NH - The University of Hartford men's soccer team battled to a 1-1 tie, after two overtimes, with conference rival New Hampshire on Sunday afternoon. The Hawks are now 6-4-5 overall and 1-1-4 in conference play, while UNH is 5-4-6, 2-1-3 in the conference.


Hartford got on the board first in the 24th minute with a goal by Daniel Antunez. From the left side of the box, Gary Muir passed to Antunez who was situated in the middle of the box. Antunez kicked the ball into the lower left of the goal, as UNH keeper Mike Jenne dove to his right.

 

UNH evened the score midway through the second half in the 62nd minute. An indirect free kick, set up at the top of the box, saw Kyle Urso tap the ball to Mike McKee, whose hard shot was blocked to the left of the box. John Bergqvist tracked down the rebound and headed the ball past Hartford keeper Matt Glaeser.

The Wildcats made a huge defensive stand with three minutes to play in the game when a shot from Andreas Blamo was blocked by Richard Weinrebe and Jenne protected from a second attempt.


In the first overtime, the Hawks had a chance to win with 1:30 remaining and a direct free kick. Oswald Adu's shot was blocked, thwarting any Hartford goal.

The Hawks finished the game with 10 shots, compared to 13 from the Wildcats, four of which came in the 20 minutes of overtime. Glaeser finished the game one save shy of his season high with seven saves overall. Jenee recorded three saves in goal. Kevin O'Donnell Shaw and Adu led the Hawks offensive threat, each taking three shots.

 

Hartford will close out its home schedule on Wednesday when they host UMBC at 6:00 p.m. at Al-Marzook Field. Prior to the game, the Hawks will honor their 10 seniors.
