West Hartford, CT - The University of Hartford volleyball team dropped its final non-conference match of the season, 3-1 to the Providence College Friars on Wednesday night. The Hawks were led by a career night from Erin Macro and a season best from Jennifer Monroy, who both finished with 19 kills. Hartford is now 7-20 overall and the Friars improve to 18-9 on the season.
Macro and Monroy led a total of six players who finished with a hitting percentage above .250 for the match. Maddison Molyneux led the team with a .348 attack percentage, with 10 kills, two errors in 23 total attempts. In total, five players finished in double digits. As a team, the Hawks hit .256 with 81 total kills, 35 errors in 180 total attempts.
Megan Schauffele completed her second double double of the season, tying her career high with 13 kills, while adding 11 digs. Rounding out the leading hitters for Hartford was Katie O'Hara who finished with 10 kills. Sarah Rasor took on the setting responsibilities finishing with a career-high 65 assists, the only player with double digit assists. Rasor also added five kills and five digs.
Defensively the Hawks were led by Sarah Boss, who finished with 18 digs, one of three players with double digits in the digs column. Schauffele added 11 and Lindsay Ford also finished with 11.
The Hawks only victory of the night came in the second game, when they trailed just once, after dropping the first point. The Hawks tied things up on the second point and went on to take a 5-1 advantage on six-straight points. The game would feature four runs of three or more for the Hawks. Overall for the game, the Hawks were led by Monroy with seven kills and Schauffele with six.
The Hawks will close out the home portion of their schedule with two matches this weekend against New Hampshire on Friday night at 6:00 p.m. and against Maine on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
