Volleyball Drops Four-Game Match to Binghamton, Macro Sets Career High with 17 Kills



West Hartford, CT ? The University of Hartford volleyball team dropped its second-straight conference match 3-1 to the Binghamton Bearcats on Friday night. The Hawks were victorious in the first game 30-24, but fell in the next three (30-21, 30-27, 30-21). Hartford falls to 7-12 overall (0-2 America East) and will take on UMBC on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at the Sports Center.

 

Hartford was led by Erin Macro who finished with a career high 17 kills. She recorded seven of those kills in the first game alone, where she hit .556 from the field (two errors nine total attacks). Her double digit kills is the ninth time this season she has finished with 10 or more in a match. Joining Macro in double digits was Hallie Fullagar with 13 and Jennifer Monroy with 12.

 

Macro finished the match leading the team in hitting with a .265 attack percentage (17 kills, eight errors, 34 attacks) but was closely followed by Fullagar who hit .214 (13 kills, four errors, 42 attacks). The Hawks as a team hit .155 from the field with 58 total kills, 33 errors and 161 total attacks. Lindsay Ford and Sarah Rasor split setting responsibilities, with Ford leading the Hawks with 35 assists. Rasor finished the match with 11 assists. Defensively, the Hawks were led by Monory and Lauren Flores who each finished with 15 kills. Joining them in double figures was Fullagar, who completed her double double with 13 digs.

 

The Hawks victory in the first game was made possible by a seven point run for Hartford, all while Monroy served. The run featured three kills from Macro and one from Fullagar. Monroy also had an ace, while the Bearcats had two errors in that span. As a team, Hartford hit .361 in the first game (20 kills, seven errors, 36 total attacks). In the second game the Hawks hitting dropped to .109, suffering eight errors and recording 13 kills on 46 attacks.

 

Individually in the third game, Macro retuned to her hot hitting, while Fullagar joined her, going errorless with five kills in 11 attacks for a .455 attack percentage. Macro finished with a .500 percentage with four kills, one error in six attempts. As a team, the Hawks hit .156 in game three with 16 kills, nine errors and 45 attacks. Hartford suffered from the floor in the final game finishing with a zero percentage, nine kills and nine errors in 34 attacks. Monroy finished the final game with three kills in four attacks with no errors to hit .750.

 

The Hawks will host UMBC on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at the Sports Center as they continue America East play.
