Albany, NY ? The University of Hartford men's soccer team posted a 1-1 tie with the Albany Great Danes to close out the regular season on Sunday afternoon. Both teams scored in the final four minutes of regulation with Andreas Blamo scoring for Hartford. The Hawks are now 7-4-6 overall and 2-1-5 in the America East.
By virtue of a today's tie, the Hawks are the fourth seed heading into the America East Championship next weekend. Hartford will begin play in the tournament hosting UMBC on Saturday, November 8 at Al-Marzook Field. Game time for the first round has yet to be determined.
“I think it is a tribute to the past three years of hard work and dedication from our staff, players and administration,” said head coach Dan Gaspar. The reward is that have made the tournament.”
The Great Danes scored first with 3:47 to play in regulation. Gaby Seguin-Gauthier scored his first goal of the season on a breakaway goal that began on a pass from Taylor McNamara. Hartford then struck back 22 seconds later when Blamo scored his team-leading sixth goal of the season off a header. Corey Patrick set up the play for Hartford providing the assist.
The Hawks took 13 shots in the game, leading that category in the first half and the first overtime period. Albany finished the game with 12 total shots. Matt Glaeser recorded six saves in goal for the Hawks, while Steward Ceus recorded five. The Hawks also led the battle of corner kicks with five.
