WEST HARTFORD ? The University of Hartford men's basketball team never trailed in a 67-53 victory over Monmouth University on Tuesday night at Chase Arena at Reich Family Pavilion.
Hartford (5-6 overall) extended its home winning streak to five games and improved to 2-1 all-time against Monmouth (2-7 overall). Senior Brian Glowiak led three Hawks in double figures and tied a career high with 15 points on 5-for-5 shooting from three-point range. Junior Jaret Von Rosenberg and sophomore Joe Zeglinski added 13 and 11 points, respectively.
Hartford scored the first nine points of the game and never looked back. Monmouth shot just 1-for-13 to open the game and committed nine turnovers in the first 13 minutes. Monmouth scored only four field goals in the half and shot 20 percent from the field. Hartford took its biggest lead of the season, 38-15, into the locker room at the half. The hometown Hawks shot 58 percent (14 of 24) for the stanza, including 60 percent (6 of 10) from three-point range.
Monmouth outscored Hartford 38-29 in the second half but never cut the deficit to single digits. Hartford led by as many as 27 points in the second half and finished the game shooting 49 percent from the floor.
R.J. Rutledge led Monmouth with a career-high 22 points on 7-for-12 shooting while Nick DelTufo chipped in with 10 points. Leading scorer Jhamar Youngblood (16.8 ppg) took only five shots and was held to a season-low two points. Monmouth remained winless on the road on the season at 0-4.
Hartford will next play at Villanova University on Friday, December 14 at 7 p.m. The Wildcats are ranked 18th in the ESPN/USA Today Poll and 23rd in the AP Poll.
