Binghamton Nips MBB in Final Seconds

 

VESTAL, NY ? The University of Hartford men's basketball team dropped a heartbreaking game at Binghamton University, 55-53, Thursday night at the Events Center.

The Hawks had erased a 10-point second-half deficit to take the lead with 2:15 to play. Hartford was clinging to a two-point lead when Mike Gordon nailed a three-pointer with 20 seconds remaining to put Binghamton up 54-53. After several called timeouts with 5.9 seconds to play, freshman Joe Zeglinski attempted a game-winning three but was off the mark.

Senior Bo Taylor finished with a game-high 22 points for the Hawks on 7-of-12 shooting from the field. He also finished with 11 rebounds for his seventh career double-double. Classmate Alex Zimnickas added nine points while Zeglinski pitched in with eight.

Binghamton's Steve Proctor knocked down five three-pointers to finish with a team-high 17 points. Gordon and Lazar Trifunovic also finished in double figures with 15 and 10 points, respectively.

The Hawks got off to a quick start at the beginning of the game, scoring the first 11 points while holding the Bearcats without a point until nearly six minutes into the contest. Binghamton, however, would outscore Hartford 27-10 in the final 14 minutes to take a 27-21 lead into the locker room at half.

Taylor paced the Hawks in the first half with 13 points. Steve Proctor hit three three-pointers in the stanza to finish with 11 first-half points for the Bearcats. Hartford shot just 38 percent and went 1-of-7 from three-point range.

Hartford will play its final regular season game at Vermont on Sunday, February 25 at 1 p.m.
