Morgantown, VA - The University of Hartford baseball team opened its season with a 7-0 loss on the road in the first of a four-game series against the West Virginia Mountaineers on Saturday. The Hawks and Mountaineers will play a double header on Sunday a seven inning game to begin and a nine inning game to conclude, the first game will start at 12:00 p.m. Hawks fans can listen to the game live on the internet using the Mountaineers Website.
The Hawks finished with just three hits in the series opener, led by Ben Sobocinski, who finished 2-for-3. Bryan Propst provided the only other Hawks hit. Weston Szymanski picked up his first loss of the season. He pitched 3.2 innings allowing four earned runs on five hits, while striking out two and walking one.
Pete Moraski and Steve Dabroski saw an inning each in relief for the Hawks. Moraksi pitched and inning and a third, allowing three earned runs on three hits. Dobraski pitched one inning and faced just three batters.
The Mountaineers finished with eight total hits and was led by Jordon Yost, who finished 2-for-2 with an RBI. One of his hits went for a Home run, his second of the season. West Virginia is now 6-3 on the season.
