Morgantown, VA - The University of Hartford baseball team dropped its final game of a four-game series with the West Virginia Mountaineers 11-1, moving to 0-4 on the season. The Hawks return home to face Central Connecticut on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m.
The Hawks finished the game with just one hit, from Chris Hebert, and allowed 12 hits from the Mountaineers. The Hawks starter Chris Greiner picked up the loss, despite pitching just 2.2 innings. He allowed five hits and six runs, all earned.
Seeing time in relief was Bob Rogers, Bryan Block and Jon Casey. Rogers saw an inning and a third, allowing five hits and two earned runs. Bloch pitched a pair of innings allowing only one hit and a run, while Casey say an inning of action allowing two runs on one hit. The Hawks pitching staff struck out just two batters.
The Mountaineers put the first runs on the board in the second inning. The first run of the game scored after Jordon Yost opened the game with a walk, scoring on an eventual fielder's choice. Jason Pape then provided a double to right to score the second run. The big inning for the Mountaineers was a five inning third. The third featured three doubles.
The Hawks single run came in the seventh inning after Ben Sobocinski started the inning by working a walk. He came around to score from second on Hebert's single to left center.
