Hartford Baseball Overpowered By #14 Oklahoma State, Lose Double-Header 18-4 & 13-1

 

 

Stillwater, OK ? The Hartford Men's Baseball team (1-8 overall) lost two games of a double-header at #14 Oklahoma State University (16-5 overall) on Saturday.  The Hawks unlike Friday night's game against the Cowboys failed to get the offense going and were unable to quiet the OSU bats.  Hartford lost the first game 18-4 and were defeated in the second game 13-1.

 

In the first game the Hawks went through a total of five pitchers with Adam Flaherty picking up the loss after only one inning of work in the first.  Offensively the Hawks had a total of six hits from five players with two of those coming from Brady Stouffer.

 

Ryan Crowley tripled to right field in the second inning allowing Erik Price to score for the Hawks first run of the game.  Hartford managed to pick up two more runs in the third inning off a groundout RBI from Ben Sobocinski which resulted in Stouffer scoring and a two-out RBI double to left field from Bowser to make the score 7-3, Cowboys.

 

The Hawks would never get any closer in the game but managed to pick up one more run in the ninth inning off a Bryan Propst home run to bring the score to 18-4.

 

In the second game the Hawks were unable to stop the Cowboys and could not get their offense going.  Oklahoma State's, Ryan Flavell, would pick up the first RBI of the game with a single in the bottom of the second to make it 1-0.  Despite having seven hits on the game, Hartford was only able to put up one run in the third inning with a Stouffer RBI single down the left field line to tie the game up at 1-1.

 

The Cowboys would pick up four runs in the bottom of the third and continue their scoring in the fifth (2), sixth (4) and seventh (2) innings to extend their lead, and pick up the 13-1 win.

 

Kyle Perry would receive his second loss of the season and only managed to go two and one third innings. Perry finished the day giving up six hits, two walks and only one strikeout while allowing five earned runs.  Marc Toomey and Brendan Floyd also pitched for the Hawks and both yielded four earned runs a piece.

 

The Hawks will look to split the series with OSU on Sunday when they face off at 11:00 a.m. (CST) in Stillwater.
