Hawks Baseball Drops Final Game of Series at #14 Ok State

Stillwater, OK- The University of Hartford Baseball team dropped the final game of a four game series against 14th ranked Oklahoma State, 8-1 on Sunday afternoon.  The Hawks finished the series 3-1 winning the first game of the series on Friday night in Stillwater.

The Hawks (1-9 overall) could only scrounge up four hits while giving up nine to the Cowboys (17-5 overall).  Chris Greiner started the game for the Hawks going five and two third innings while allowing eight hits and seven earned runs.  Greiner had three strikeouts and three walks on the day.  Steve Dabroski and Zach Tarner would come in for relief for the Hawks to finish out the game.  Dabroski would go perfect for one and one third innings while Tarner would give up a homerun in one inning of work.

Oklahoma State's offense came from Ty Wright who was three for three on the day with three RBI, which came via a three-run homerun in the bottom of the fifth.  Ryan Flavell was the other Cowboy who picked up two RBI with a sac fly and solo homer in the game.  On the hill for OSU was Justin Friend who was not much of a friend to the Hawks.  Friend worked eight and one third innings and allowed four hits while picking up 13 strikeouts.

Adam Bowser was the first Hawk with a hit picking up a single in the top of the second.  Bowser was called out as part of a Cowboy double play which was unfortunate for the Hawks because Erik Price would then come up with a double to right center.  In the top of the fourth Ben Sobocinski picked up a one-out single to left field but was stranded on base when the Hawks failed to bat him in.  The top of the sixth inning started out with a Brady Stouffer single to left field.  With one out Stouffer advanced to second when Sobocinski was hit by a pitch.  Bowser would then fly out to right field with Stouffer tagging up and advancing to third base.  Stouffer would then score on an error by the catcher to pick up the Hawks first and only run of the day.

The Hawks will next return to action for their home opener on Wednesday, March 21 when they face Rhode Island at 3:00 p.m.
