Softball Opens Season with Split

 

SUMMERVILLE, SC - The University of Hartford softball team opened the 2007 season by splitting a pair of games at the Charleston Southern Tournament. The Hawks lost to St. Bonaventure in the opening game by an 8-0 final before bouncing back for a 2-0 win over Providence College.

Freshmen Brittney Stratton and Gina Massaro combined for the shutout against the Friars. Stratton pitched the first four frames while Massaro threw the final three innings to record her first collegiate win. Classmate Rachel Clonick provided the offense, hitting a solo homer in the sixth inning and driving in another second run with a triple in the seventh. The homer was the first of her collegiate career. Senior Nicole McMillon took the loss in the first game.

Hartford will continue play at the Charleston Southern Touranment on Saturday with games against Brown and Campbell.
