Hamden, CT - The University of Hartford baseball team dropped an 11-1 decision on the road at Quinnipiac on Sunday, splitting a home-and-home series with the Bobcats over the weekend. The Hawks won yesterday's outing 6-4. Hartford is now 3-15 overall and will next host the Connecticut Huskies on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. at the Hartford Baseball Field.
The Hawks pitching staff, five total, gave up just seven hits in the game, but starter Chris Greiner who allowed four earned runs struggled with his control, walking seven batters. In total, the Hawks walked 13 batters, while striking out five. Greiner suffers the loss, he is now 0-4 on the season. He lasted three and a third innings and gave up three hits. Steve Dabroski saw two and two-thirds innings, giving up one hit and two earned runs, while striking out three and walking three.
Brendan Floyd and CJ Browne, both saw action in the sixth inning. Floyd faced two batters and walked both, who then came around to score in a seven run inning for the Bobcats. Browne saw three batters, fiving up three hits and allowing three earned runs. Zack Tarner came in the seventh and buckled down the hatches, finishing out the game, allowing no hits in seven batters faced.
Quinnipiac put the first runs on the board in the second inning with a pair and then added two more in the third, before the seven run seventh inning opened the game up for the Bobcats. The seventh inning began with Dabroski walking a pair and Floyd coming in to walk two more. The nex three batters each recorded hits, with a double from Tim Binkoski sandwiched in the middle of two singles.
The Hawks only run of the game came in the top half of the seventh inning, when a lead off single from Erik Price led to an eventual run. For the Hawks, Ben Sobocinski and Bill Perry both finished with a multi hit game. Perry finished 2-for-3, while Sobocinski was 2-of-4.
The Hawks will take a two day hiatus before playing on Tuesday, when they host the Connecticut Huskies at the Hartford Baseball Field at 3:00 p.m.
