Men's and Women's Tennis Split with Sacred Heart



West Hartford, CT - The University of Hartford men's and women's tennis teams split a dual-match with Sacred Heart at the Hartford Tennis Courts on Monday. The men's team posted a 5-2 victory over the Pioneers, while the women's team dropped a 7-0 decision. The men are now 2-6 in the spring and 3-10 overall, while the women drop to 0-7 this spring and 0-10 overall this year.

 

The Hawks won all three doubles positions and the top-four singles spots to take home the victory. Artur Muller, Doruk Baglan, Kyle O'Leary and Jeff Cote all took home singles victories. Muller defeated Bryan Rodgers in the first singles position by scores of 6-1, 6-0. Baglan didn't allow a point from his competition (6-0, 6-0), Chris McDonnell, in the second spot, while O'Leary allowed just one point (6-0, 6-1) from Kevin Guidicipietro in the third singles spot. Rounding out the singles victories was Cote, who defeated Matt Cook in the fourth spot, 6-0, 6 -2.  

 

The Pioneers picked up their two points in the fifth and sixth singles positions. Muller and O'Leary combined for an 8-3 win at first doubles, while Baglan joined Cote to defeat Guidicipietro and Jason Farhadi 8-0 in the second doubles position. Emmett Drake and Brian Reilly rounded out the final doubles spot with an 8-6 win over Mark Malari and Joe Lancelotti.


The women's team was unsuccessful in all nine matches. The closes the Hawks would come was in the first doubles position where Racquel Casino and Kasey Michels scored five points, before falling 8-5 to Pam Pillo and Nicole Betz. Stephanie Schonobel also faired well at the second singles position, where she fell by a 6-2, 6-2 decision.

 

The men's and women's tennis teams will be back in action this Sunday, April 15, when they host Holy Cross beginning at 11:00 a.m.
