Burlington, VT - The University of Hartford baseball team closed out its four-game series with the Vermont Catamounts with a 3-0 win in Burlington on Sunday. Chris Greiner pitched a complete game for the Hawks, allowing no runs on six hits, while striking out 13 batters. The Hawks improve to 9-23 overall and 6-5 in America East action. Vermont drops to 13-17 overall (4-3 in conference action).
The win is the first shut out and first complete game of the rookie's career. It is also the most strikeouts for any Hawk pitcher this season. In the six hits allowed, only two of them went for multiple bases, both doubles. The Hawks bats were led by Chris Hebert who finished with two hits in three at bats and added an RBI. All three of the Hawks RBI's came from different players.
Hartford's first run came in the third inning when Erik Price led off the inning with a double to right center field. He then took third on a sacrifice attempt from Hebert, who reached on the infield single. Matt O'Connell then scored Price on a sacrifice to center field.
The Hawks second run came by virtue of a pair of Catamount errors. Adam Bowser led off the inning by reaching first on a fielding error on the short stop and took second on a failed pick off attempt. He would later score on Hebert's second hit of the day, a single to center field. Hartford then added an insurance run on a two out solo home run down the left field line for Brady Stouffer.
The Hawks will be back in action next weekend when they travel to Binghamton, continuing conference play with a four-game series against the Bearcats beginning on Friday. The Hawks were scheduled to play Yale in a mid-week tilt, but that game has been cancelled.
